How we produce at Bretz

How and where a piece of furniture is made, which materials are used and how long it can be used are important questions for us.

That is why, at Bretz, we focus on the selection of our materials, their use in production, our production processes and the conditions within our supply chain.

On this page, we show specifically how we produce today and which measures we have implemented in the areas of materials, production and collaboration.

In the long term

Quality has a long tradition at Bretz. For more than 130 years, we have been producing upholstered furniture with high standards of design, craftsmanship and comfort.

Carefully selected materials, craftsmanship and attention to detail define our sofas, armchairs and beds, which we manufacture at our site in Gensingen.

In construction, material selection and workmanship, we focus on creating furniture designed for a long service life. The result is handcrafted furniture with a distinctive character – far removed from standardised mass production.

The wooden frames of our furniture are manufactured in Upper Franconia and form the structural basis of our upholstered furniture.

For our furniture, we use carefully selected velour and upholstery fabrics. We source a large proportion of our fabrics from suppliers in Italy, Germany and Belgium. The choice of materials, feel, colour and workmanship contribute significantly to the characteristic appearance of our furniture.

For our upholstered furniture, we do not use leather or down. Instead, we use textile covering and upholstery materials that we select to suit the design, function and workmanship.

Already at the cutting-planning stage, we take care to use lengths of fabric as efficiently as possible and to reduce the amount of offcuts produced. Suitable fabric remnants are reused, among other

Care in production

We manufacture our upholstered furniture at our company site in Gensingen, Rhineland-Palatinate. Key stages of our production and assembly take place there.

Since 2024, we have operated our own photovoltaic system at our site in Gensingen. Some of the solar power generated there is used directly on site. Over the course of a year, the photovoltaic system generates more electricity than is consumed at our site in total.

When selecting materials, designing the construction and carrying out the craftsmanship, we place great importance on quality and a long service life for our furniture.

Because a piece of furniture that is used for a long time needs to be replaced less frequently.
