Velours
The highest art and a true diva
We are known for our unique and luxurious upholstery fabrics: Bretz velvet. These fabrics are more than just materials. They are an expression of style, quality and creativity.
From a magically sensual selection of 115 designs and colors, you can choose the upholstery that perfectly matches your personal taste. Each velvet is designed to give your home a distinctive atmosphere and individual character.
What truly sets our velvet fabrics apart is their exceptional durability. High-quality materials and careful craftsmanship ensure that your furniture retains its beauty and elegance for many years. A Bretz velvet becomes a faithful companion that brings you lasting enjoyment.
Our fabrics are created in collaboration with specialized textile manufacturers in Italy, Belgium, and Germany. Together, we develop a diverse selection of upholstery fabrics with different colors, textures, and characters.
Our collection ranges from shimmering plain fabrics in numerous shades to expressive patterned fabrics that can be perfectly combined with one another. Colorful like a rainbow or subtle yet especially rich in texture. Be bold when planning your True Character! We believe that you will never grow tired of your favorite color.
But which velvet suits you best? What distinguishes the different fabric groups? What is a Jacquard weave, and what is mohair? To better understand our velvets and gain deeper insight into our collection, we invite you to explore the wonderful world of our velvety fabrics.
Some of our characterful velvets are created using the Jacquard weaving technique. Developed as early as 1805, this method made it possible for the first time to weave patterns directly into velvet fabrics. This is how our Velours de Gênes are produced. In specialized textile manufacturers, this elaborate process is still used today and allows for particularly intricate designs such as arabesk, boa, gobelin, mikado, or paradise.
At the beginning of every fabric, however, there is a creative idea. Through mood boards, we combine colors, structures, and patterns into sensual design worlds, which are then further developed together with our manufacturers. Step by step, fabrics with a distinctive character are created exclusively for Bretz.
How vibrant the interplay of colors and textures can be is shown, for example, by Ohlinda. Inspired by a wild flower meadow, the upholstery combines different shades and fabric structures into an expressive composition.

Material differences
Everyone’s needs are different. Our velvets are made from synthetic fibers, natural fibers, or a blend of both. Here you can discover the differences.
)
Synthetic fibers are particularly robust and easy to care for. As dirt generally cannot penetrate synthetic fibers, it can almost always be removed. In addition, velvets made from synthetic fibers are significantly more affordable than those made from natural fibers. The velvets from fabric groups 61, 63 and 65, as well as Happy Velvet from group 64, are examples of synthetic fiber velvets and are ideal for anyone looking for a durable and long-lasting sofa upholstery, especially in households with pets or young children.
)
Natural fibers are fibers of natural origin and are distinguished by their particularly refined appearance and feel. However, they are more sensitive to stains and are therefore often additionally treated with a stain protection in our collection. Examples of natural fiber velvets include Vintage Velvet and Bohème Vintage Velvet from fabric groups 64 and 65, both made from viscose. Mohair Velvet from fabric group 70 also belongs to this category and is made from pure mohair.
)
Blended fabrics are often an excellent alternative to pure viscose velvets. By adding other yarns, the viscose yarn is supported and therefore much less prone to pressure marks. Velvets made from viscose blends include, for example, the fabrics in categories 66 and 67.
Our fabrics
The different fabric groups (61, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 70) classify our Bretz velvets according to price levels. This classification is not an indicator of the quality of the respective material. Each fabric has its own characteristics that may be relevant depending on personal requirements and use. Further information on material composition, fabric weights, and finishes such as special weaving techniques, digital prints, or stain protection treatments can be found in our fabric manual as well as in the care booklet.
